"Christmas in Clinton" Festive Open House

Enjoy the Adam Stanton House & General Store yuletide decorations as you take a self guided tour through the museum during “Christmas in Clinton” Open House on Sun., Dec. 3rd from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.  Docents will be on hand in candlelit rooms to answer your questions about this historic c. 1791 museum. Light refreshments will be served.

There’s more to enjoy on the outside too! Warm yourself around a bonfire on the General Store lawn while listening to the Chester Fife & Drum Corps perform from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. Then join in the fun as The Stanton Singers perform and lead sing-along-caroling from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. “Reindeer Food”, aka birdseed, will be available (with a donation).

The Adam Stanton House would like to thank the Chester Fife & Drum Corps, The Stanton Singers, the Arbor Garden Club of Clinton, and our docent volunteers for donating their time and talents this year.

“Help Keep the Museum Warm this Winter!” All Open House donations will benefit the museum’s annual $25,000+ operational expenses which include fuel, utility, and insurance costs among others.

The “Haunted Spirits of Clinton Stroll” cohosted with the Kidz Konnection Academy of Actors

Kidz Konnection Shoreline Theater Academy in collaboration with The Adam Stanton House & General Store Museum will host a special three night Halloween event called Haunted Spirits of Clinton Stroll on Thursday, October 12th, Friday, October 13th and Saturday, October 14th.  Three tours will be offered each night at 6 pm, 6:30 pm and 7 pm.  Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.  All proceeds will go towards the ongoing restoration of the Adam Stanton House and the historic Academy building home to Kidz Konnection.

The stroll will visit the grounds of the historic 18th century burial grounds where spirits of famous local characters will thrill you with stories of their past.  Hear true paranormal tales of historical events told by the spirits of the deceased….some frightening, some emotional and some entertaining.  Afterwards light refreshments will be served. 

Tickets can be purchased on line at Kidzkonnectionct.org by credit card.  For those without internet access please reserve by calling or e-mailing the Adam Stanton House at 860-669-2132 or adamstantonhouse@gmail.com  Specify in your message your full name, phone number for confirmation, what date, time slot and adult/children ticket amounts you want.  Tour tickets are limited so book early before the event is sold out.  Updates and additional information will be posted on Kidz Konnection and the Adam Stanton House websites especially in the event of inclement weather.

The event is outdoors and will require walking at night over unlevel ground.  The tour will start at the Adam Stanton House located at 63 East Main Street, Clinton and proceed to the Academy Building then thru the old burial grounds and end at the cemetery office for refreshments.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight.

Free and Open to the Public - Masks Required

The Adam Stanton House Museum will host a benefit tag sale on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on the museum’s grounds located at 63 East Main Street, Clinton, CT.  The sale includes antiques, furniture, dishware, brick a brack, picture frames, books, toys and numerous miscellaneous treasures.  All proceeds will benefit the museum’s restoration and operational efforts amongst which replacement of the home’s cedar roof is the most urgent. 

Donations of quality items will be accepted for the sale.  To contribute items please call 860—669-2087 prior to the sale.

The sale is free and open to the public.  While browsing for unique items shoppers can enjoy the recently restored historic perennial gardens and learn about the ongoing restoration efforts and mission of the Adam Stanton House from the various board members and volunteers staffing the sale.  Guests are asked to wear masks and maintain a safe social distance.  All state safety policies will be followed.  No early viewing allowed, grounds open promptly at 10 am.  Rain date will be Sunday, October 25th.  Additional information about The Stanton House can be found at adamstantonhouse.org.

The Adam Stanton House and General Store was built in 1791 by a wealthy, striving merchant-businessman whose entrepreneurial spirit and extraordinary taste can be seen in every aspect of this unique house museum. Filled with clothing, furnishings, documents, and store inventory all belonging to the original Stanton family, the house provides a glimpse into 18th and 19th century life in a privileged New England family home. In 1916, the house was left in trust by Adam Stanton's heirs to become a house museum. It has been open to the public ever since.

Harvest Moon Benefit

Come enjoy a festive evening with good friends, good food and good music! Music that evening will be provided by Paul Neri and The Howlin' Hound Dogs. Wine, beer, cider, appetizers, and cheese will be served. There will also be a silent auction.

All proceeds will go to replacing the roof.

Tickets are $35 per person and can be can purchased in advance, on the website.

No physical tickets will be issued. Ticket purchases will be held in your name at the door.

Join us for a Colonial Tavern Night featuring draughts of ale, games of skill, and victuals —  commonly known as beer, wine, and snacks. There will be prizes, too! A fire will be blazing in the fireplace, candles will be lighted throughout the house, and music will set the stage for a night of old-fashioned revelry. Are you up for a game of Shut the Box? Come thirsty, with your game face on.

Tavern Night is April 6 from 7:00-10:00 p.m.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. No physical tickets will be issued; your name will be listed at the door.

Members Only Reception

Adam Stanton House members are invited to attend a free “members only” event on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. for a special tour of the second floor bed chambers which have been closed for years and are now open to the public.

Light refreshments will be served. Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to spend some time in Clinton’s most authentically preserved 18th century museum.

Robbie Burns Night at Scottish Dave's Pub

Come celebrate Robert Burns's birthday, raise a glass to toast the great Scottish poet, and help support the Stanton House. Proprietor "Scottish Dave" puts out a massive appetizer buffet available to all who care to join in the merriment. Raffle prizes will be as plentiful as the smiles on a Scotsman's face after a night of Haggis, whiskey, and revelry. 

Live music will be provided by bagpipers and "The Corby's". 

The event begins at 5:00 pm.  Come early, stay late! Scottish Dave's is located at 24 E. Main Street in Clinton.

Admission is $10 at the door and includes the buffet. Raffle tickets are $1.  All proceeds will help keep the heat on at the Stanton House through these cold winter nights.

Ghost Walks

  • Wednesday, Oct 26, and Thursday, Oct 27, 2016 at 6:00, 6:30, & 7:00pm

Chills, frights, and a bit of history await those who attend the Clinton Historical Society's annual Ghost Walks which will once again feature the popular cemetery tours by lantern light.  Guests will visit inside the 1791 Stanton House, learn about haunted homes along Main Street, and see Clinton's long-dead characters come back to life in the dark of the Indian River Cemetery. Tours of Old Brick will also be available that night, while a crackling fire awaits visitors outside. Inside, refreshments will be served.  Wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain in the cemetery can be uneven. The tours begin at the Historical Society's campus, 103 E. Main Street. 

The cost is $13 per person. Reservations are required, and the tours fill up quickly.  To reserve a place in a tour at 6:00, 6:30, or 7:00 p.m. on either October 26 or 27, please email CHSOldBrick@gmail.com. Be sure to leave your name, the time and date of the tour you wish to attend, and how many spots you wish to reserve. You will receive a return confirmation before the night of the tour.  Cash payment collected at the door.

Ghost Walks

The Clinton Historical Society is sponsoring its annual Ghost Walks event which includes a narrated tour of haunted spots along Main Street, a candlelit visit to the Adam Stanton House, and culminates in a lantern-lit walk into the nearby Indian River Cemetery, where guests will be treated to surprising presentations from those who lived long ago.

Three Ghost Walk Tours are offered each night on October 17 and 18, at 6:00, 6:30, and 7:00 p.m.  The Ghost Walk begins at the Clinton Historical Society's campus, 103 E. Main Street, Clinton, CT.  Refreshments will be served.  

Comfortable shoes are recommended and guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight. 

Cost is $10 per person and reservations are required.  To reserve a spot, please call the Clinton Historical Society at 860-669-2148 and leave a message indicating which date and time you prefer.
